Composite Subjects
Introduction
A composite subject combines several related subjects into a common unit. The grades of the individual subjects are aggregated and flow into a common final grade. This is the case, for example, with subjects like GSE (History, Social Studies, Geography) or PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology).
Recognising Composite Subjects
A composite subject can be identified in Grade Management by the following features:
- In the "My Lessons" overview, the label "Composite Subject" appears next to the subject name.
- In the detail view, the title is displayed as "Composite Subject Lesson [Subject Name]".
- Linked lessons are listed.
Open Composite Subject
To open a composite subject:
- Navigate to the "Grade Management" module.
- Select "My Lessons".
- Look for the lesson with the "Composite Subject" label.
- Click "Open Lesson".
Structure of the Composite Subject View
Header Area
| Information | Description |
|---|---|
| Subject | Name of the composite subject (e.g., Business Administration) |
| Linked Lessons | List of combined subjects (e.g., Mathematics, Physics) |
| Teachers | Assigned teachers |
Info Box
The following note appears in the composite subject:
The grades in the composite subject are aggregated from the grades of the linked lessons. To edit grades, please open the respective lesson.
Grade Table
The grade table in the composite subject shows:
| Element | Description |
|---|---|
| Individual Grades | All grades from the linked lessons |
| Averages | Calculated averages per area |
| Final Grades | Aggregated final grades for semester and school year |
Grades are grouped by grade areas (e.g., Major Assessment, Minor Assessment), with grades from all linked lessons combined.
Edit Grades in Composite Subjects
In the composite subject, you can only view grades, but not directly edit them. To edit, you must open the respective individual lesson.
To edit grades:
- Note which linked lesson the grade comes from.
- Click on the corresponding linked lesson in the header area.
- Edit the grade in the individual lesson.
- The change is automatically updated in the composite subject.
Alternatively:
- Navigate to "My Lessons".
- Open the corresponding individual lesson.
- Edit the grade.
Final Grades in Composite Subjects
Final grades in the composite subject are calculated from all grades of the linked lessons:
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| 1st Sem | Final grade for the first semester |
| Full Year | Final grade for the entire school year |
| Avg | Calculated average |
| = | Rounded final grade |
The weighting of individual grade areas is taken into account in the calculation.
Open Linked Lessons
To navigate directly to a linked lesson:
- Open the composite subject.
- Click on one of the linked lessons in the header area (e.g., "Mathematics(5a)").
- The individual lesson opens.
In the individual lesson, a note appears in the final grades area:
This lesson is part of a composite subject. Final grades are therefore assigned in the composite subject.
Click "Open Composite Subject" to return to the composite subject.
Example: Business Administration Composite Subject
A "Business Administration" composite subject could combine the following lessons:
| Linked Lesson | Description |
|---|---|
| Mathematics (5a) | Mathematical foundations |
| Physics (5a) | Scientific foundations |
All grades from Mathematics and Physics flow into the overall "Business Administration" grade.
Configuration
The setup of composite subjects is done by the school administration. As a teacher, you can:
- View the structure of the composite subject
- See the linked lessons
- View the aggregated grades and final grades
Changes to the configuration can only be made by administrators.
