Excuses in General

Introduction

Excuses in edjufy are always the counterpart to one or more absences of a pupil.
They serve to justify the absence and document the reason.

The Excuses module should generally always be used in conjunction with the Absences module.

In exceptional cases, the Excuses module can also be used without the Absences module.
However, this is not recommended.

Who Should Create an Excuse?

Fundamentally, excuses in edjufy should always be created by legal guardians or adult pupils.

Only in exceptional cases, e.g., if a legal guardian does not yet have edjufy access, can the excuse also be created by a teacher or the office.

Who Should Handle Excuses Within the School?

Generally, we recommend that the processing of excuses should always be done by the respective class teachers.
They should review an incoming excuse, possibly ask follow-up questions to the legal guardian, and then accept or reject the excuse.

The office, on the other hand, should primarily handle absences. In particular, absences without an excuse.
This is exactly where the office needs to take action and possibly contact the legal guardians.

The office itself should only process excuses in exceptional cases, e.g., if the class teacher is not available.

How Often Should Open Excuses Be Processed?

The handling generally varies from school to school.
However, we generally recommend that open excuses should be processed at least once per week.

Depending on the number of pupils and thus also the excuses, it may also make sense to process excuses daily.
